Abstract. Analytical and mathematical competencies have become increasingly important in various professions. Students are in need of wider and deeper mathematical and statistical knowledge. Has mathematical teaching responded to new demands?
Our research shows that changes are minimal at all levels of education. The first results of research conducted on the students at University of Novi Sad in 2018 will be given.
The goal of the research was to find out to what bachelor students understand quantitative data, how they interpret it, and how much they are susceptible to common misconceptions which could be avoided if concepts of probability and statistics are well understood and properly applied. Students' self-reported knowledge in mathematics and statistics, and their expectations of how much that knowledge will be used in their professional and private life was evaluated as well.
