Bolyai Institute

The Bolyai Institute is the Mathematical Institute of the Faculty of Science and Informatics of the University of Szeged, Szeged, Hungary. It was founded by Frigyes Riesz and Alfréd Haar, two outstanding mathematicians of the 20th century, in 1921. They founded the journal of the institute---and the first international matehamatical journal in Hungary---, Acta Scientiarum Mathematicarum the following year.

During its history, professors of the Bolyai Institute have included such great figures of Hungarian mathematics as László Kalmár (mentor of the country's first computer science program), Béla Szőkefalvi-Nagy, László Lovász, Károly Tandori and Sándor Csörgő. Currently about 1500 students attend the lectures and seminars of the Institute's professors.
