Location

The talks will take place in the Szeged Division of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.

Currency is Hungarian Forint (HUF). 1 EUR ≈ 375 HUF, 1000 HUF ≈ 2.67 EUR.

Climate is continental, with mean temperature around 5 °C in November.

Internet access Good quality wireless EDUROAM service is provided in all academic buildings. Most of the hotels offer free wireless access for their guests.

Local transportation in Szeged

Public transportation in general is not the most organized in Szeged, but everything related to the workshop is within walking distance.

  • Ticked vending machines are located at the main train station and on Aradi vertanuk tere. The vending machines accept HUF and credit cards.
  • One single ticket costs 500 HUF, one block of 10 tickets is 4000 HUF. You can also purchase a 24-hour ticket for 1380 HUF, or a 72-hour ticket for 2700 HUF.
  • Transferring between lines requires another ticket to be validated.
  • The simplest choice for an online trip planner is the use of Google Maps, which has precise schedule information.
  • EU citizens above 65 years old can use all public transportation for free.

By train from Budapest to Szeged

  • There is a direct a train from “Nyugati” railway station to Szeged every hour, from 5:53 in the morning until 19:53 in the evening.
  • The journey itself about two hours and twenty minutes.
  • The ticket costs ca. 5000 HUF (2nd class).

  • EU citizens above 65 years old can use all public transportation for free.

Once you have arrived to Szeged, take tram 2 or 1 in front of the railway station, and get off at “Aradi vertanuk tere” (3 stops, 3 min, 500 HUF). Or you can take a 15-minute walk to the Institute.

By car from Budapest to Szeged

Use navigation to Szeged, Aradi vertanuk tere 1. Parking is easy, parking fee applies on work days, from 8:00 to 18:00, but parking is free on Saturdays and Sundays.

From Liszt Ferenc Airport (BUD) to Szeged

The easiest (and cheapest) way to get to Szeged from the Budapest Airport is by train.** **in general is not the most organized in Szeged, but everything related to the workshop is within walking distance.

  • There are ticked vending machines at Liszt Ferenc Airport Terminal 2. The vending machines accept HUF and credit cards. One single ticket costs 400 HUF.
  • Take bus 200E, and get off at “Ferihegy vasútállomás” (Ferihegy train station, 8 min).
  • At the train station there is a train ticket vending machine, you can buy your ticket to Szeged there. The ticket costs ca. 5000 HUF (2nd class, without seat reservation), and the journey itself takes about two hours. There is a train to Szeged about every hour, from 6:13 in the morning to 20:13 in the evening.
  • Once you have arrived to Szeged, take tram 2 or 1 in front of the railway station, and get off at “Aradi vertanuk tere” (3 stops, 3 min). Or you can take a 15-minute walk to the Institute.
