Abstract. Recent delay differential equation (DDE) models are introduced for rather general heating systems with a heater and a storage and, optionally, a heat exchanger. The working components are connected with pipes, through which a pump circulates some heat transfer fluid. The pipes give rise to time delay in the proposed mathematical models. The flow rate in the pipes, and thus the time delay, can be either time dependent or state dependent. Both cases are considered. In addition, the applicability/validation of the DDEs is demonstrated based on the measured data of a real solar heating system. Further research possibilities are also discussed. |
