The Bolyai Institute of the University of Szeged is pleased to announce hereby that the Béla Szőkefalvi-Nagy Medal for the year 2017 has been awarded to

László Lovász, Professor of Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest, Hungary.

László Lovász, one of the leading mathematicians of our time, has obtained groundbreaking results in various fields of mathematics which solved many outstanding problems and had applications in mathematics and theoretical computer science. His comprehensive books are invaluable sources for generations of mathematicians over the world. He has published five research papers in Acta Scientiarum Mathematicarum, which constitute significant contributions to discrete mathematics, algebra, and geometry.

The Medal will be presented to László Lovász at 11:00, february 19, 2018 in the Bolyai Institute. On this occasion he delivers a lecture ``Graphs and Functional Analysis: It's good to learn beyond the narrow vocabulary"
