The fundamental theorem of chronogeometry proved by Alexandrov describes the general form of bijective preservers of light-likeness on the classical Minkowski space. This theorem that is of basic importance in special relativity has applications also in mathematical foundations of quantum mechanics. The Alexandrov's theorem has been improved and extended in several directions. We will present a recently obtained optimal version of the fundamental theorem of chronogeometry. This is a report on a joint work with Michiya Mori.
