Getting to Szeged

By plane via Budapest

The closest international airport to Szeged is the Franz Liszt International Airport in Budapest, which has connections to all major cities worldwide. The airport has a train connection to Szeged. Below you find more information on travelling by train from Budapest to Szeged, and here is a description about possible ways to reach a train station from the airport. A more convenient alternative could be to take a shuttle bus from the airport directly to Szeged. Signum Transfer offers transfers between the airport and Szeged for 9900 HUF (approx. 33 EUR).

By train via Budapest

Trains from Budapest to Szeged depart from Nyugati railway station once an hour during the daytime (if you arrive to a different station, you may find this information about getting around in Budapest useful). You can check the timetable on the website of MÁV-START, the Hungarian railway company. Almost all trains operating between Budapest and Szeged are divided into two parts: a regular part and an InterCity (IC) part. The IC part requires a supplementary ticket for seat reservation in addition to a regular train ticket. Besides having a reserved seat, another advantage of the IC carriages is that they have air conditioning. At the ticket offices one can pay in cash (only in HUF) for the train ticket, but usually credit cards are also accepted.

By car

You can reach Szeged on the motorway M5/E75. On most motorways in Hungary (including M5) one is required to have a valid electronic vignette. A vignette for 10 days costs 2975 HUF (approx. 10 EUR), and it can be bought at petrol stations as well as on the internet. If you come by car, please take into account the information about parking in Szeged below.

Getting around in Szeged

If you drive a car in Szeged, please be aware of the fact that in most places in the center of Szeged you can park only with a pre-purchased parking ticket; the parking time is often limited and it is difficult to find a parking space. However, parking in Szeged is free from 6 pm to 8 am on weekdays, from 12 pm on Saturdays and all the time on Sunday. Moreover, you can always find a free parking place in a 10-15 minute walking distance from the conference site. You can find more information about the parking system here.
