AAA102 – 102nd WORKSHOP ON GENERAL ALGEBRA June 24–26, 2022, Szeged, Hungary |
by public transportation in general: To use the public transport system in Budapest, you will need a pre-purchased ticket available in ticket vending machines at most of the stops or via mobile applications. There are single tickets (a separate one is required for each leg of the trip), 30- and 90-minute tickets. You may buy single tickets from the driver on some buses and trams if it is indicated so. Note that these single tickets cost a bit more than the pre-purchased ones.
by airport buses: You might need them, for example, if you travel from Budapest to Szeged. You may use the bus 200E to take you to Ferihegy railway station. The final stop of bus 200E is Kőbánya-Kispest railway station. Each train to Szeged stops at both of these railway stations. To reach the center of Budapest from the Liszt Ferenc airport (Ferihegy), you may use bus 200E and the airport bus 100E that takes you to Deák Ferenc tér in the city center with only 3 stops. Note that bus 200E operates on a regular fare, but bus 100E requires a special ticket that costs 900 Ft (approx. 2.3 Euros), more than a regular ticket. The stop of the buses at the airport is on the sidewalk where the building of Terminal 2A adjoins the building of Terminal 2B. The timetable of the airport buses: from the airport to Ferihegy railway station, from Ferihegy railway station to the airport, from the airport to Deák Ferenc tér and from Deák Ferenc tér to the airport.
by metro: The largest railway stations in Budapest are connected with metro lines. Nyugati railway station and Kőbánya-Kispest railway station are located on the blue metro line M3. However, there are reconstruction works on the metroline M3 as of now, and replacement buses are in service on some sections, but the reconstruction is due to be completed by June 18. Déli and Keleti railway stations are connected with the red metro line M2, if you arrive at any of these stations, then you can take the red metro line M2 to Deák Ferenc tér, and then the blue line M3 to Nyugati.
by taxi: Whatever your destination is, ask about the price of the whole drive ahead. A taxi drive between the airport and the Nyugati railway station should be around 8000-12000 Ft (approx. 20-30 Euros). You can find the list and the websites of the taxi companies in Budapest here, many of them offer a fare calculator and a mobile application too.
by train: All trains from Budapest to Szeged depart from Nyugati railway station, and stop at the following stations in the Budapest area: Zugló, Kőbánya-Kispest, Ferihegy. All trains from Szeged to Budapest arrive at Nyugati railway station. The trains both from Budapest to Szeged and from Szeged to Budapest depart every hour, and the traveling time is approximately 2.5 hours. All trains operating between Szeged and Budapest are divided into two sections, a regular and an InterCity (IC) section. A supplementary ticket is required for the IC section. An IC ticket includes a seat reservation in the IC section. A regular ticket comes with no seat reservation and is valid only for the regular section. You can buy your tickets at the ticket offices or vending machines at the railway stations, or you can buy electronic tickets on the webpage of the railway company MÁV or via the MÁV mobile application. IC tickets cost way less online than in the ticket offices or vending machines. You do not have to validate your ticket before boarding the train, this is done on the train by a ticket inspector. If you bought an electronic ticket, you must present it on an electronic device (such as a laptop, smartphone, tablet, etc.) or by printing it on a white A4 paper sheet.
