Trend Information System (TIR) has been being developed since September
1999. A claim of a multifunctional production managing system was occurred
due to the growing of our company,
Trend Kft.,
including storage, shipping,
issuing of invoices, logistics and other special fields. TIR should also
provide information via the Net. A small developing group had been asked to
create a suitable system.
A program designer mathematician, based on SSADM, laid down the base of the
system. At the moment some details of these plans still are growing, as
well. We started the implementation
in
PostgreSQL 6.5.3 with a
Red Hat Linux 6.1 operating system
and - on
Microsoft Windows
95 and 98 clients -
Borland's
C++ Builder 4 with ODBCExpress from
Korbitec Pty.
The growing demands forced us to change our
recent hardware and software: currently
we are using PostgreSQL 7.1beta4 and C++ Builder 5.
In a consequence of some strange internal confusions we were forced to
contact the developers of PostgreSQL and ODBCExpress. We also joined to the
Borland users' community on the Net. That was a great joy for us to take
part in developing open source projects, using open source tools like CVS,
CVSweb, WinMerge and many free Unix software. TIR is standing on a strong
base because of the applied software.
Nowadays nine programmers are working on the information system. Five of
them do the whole part of coding in C++. Two programmers are developing
visual components for the team (also in C++). One programmer is responsible
for the Linux parts (PostgreSQL, web access and security related issues) and
one for controlling, managing all the crew. There is also an operator who
supervises the productive database system, solves the installation and
configuration problems and contacts the users.
