Attitude can sometimes be very missleading....

A thin rubber sheet (arbitrarily stretchable and compressible) and a metal ring are concatenated as shown in the left-hand side of the figure.

Can the rubber ring (without tearing) be tortured into the position shown on the right-hand side of the figure?
