TRAVEL INFORMATION
------------------

Arrival
-------
We assume that most participants will come to Szeged via Budapest.

IF YOU COME BY CAR,
you can reach Szeged on the National Highway no. 5 (Budapest--Szeged),
or on the toll way M5 (Budapest--Kiskunfelegyhaza) which joins near
Kiskunfelegyhaza with the National Highway no. 5.The cost of using the
toll way is approx. 6 Euros (4 day sticker). If you come by car, please
be aware of the fact that in most places in the center of Szeged you can
park only with a pre-purchased parking ticket, parking time is often limited,
and it is difficult to find parking space. However, you can always find a free
parking place in a 10-15 minute walking distance from the conference site.

IF YOU COME BY AIR OR BY TRAIN,
we recommend you to take one of the following direct trains from Budapest
to Szeged.

departure from arrival to
Budapest `Nyugati' Szeged
06:05 09:09
06:35 08:49 IC
08:05 10:47
09:35 11:49 IC
11:05 13:47
12:35 14:49 IC ***
14:05 16:47
15:35 17:49 IC
17:05 19:52
18:35 20:49 IC
20:15 23:03 ***

All trains from Budapest to Szeged depart from
Railway Station `Nyugati'.

The trains marked with `IC' are InterCity trains.
These trains require a supplementary ticket, in
addition to a regular train ticket. The supplementary
ticket includes seat reservation. First class is
non-smoking only. The non-InterCity trains operate
with second class carriages only.

The train marked with `***' does not run on Saturday.

How to reach Railway Station `Nyugati'
--------------------------------------
IF YOU COME BY AIR,
then the easiest way to get anywhere in Budapest -- including
Railway Station `Nyugati' -- is to take the Airport Mini Bus.
Tickets and information can be obtained at the designated
counter in the baggage claim area or arrival area.
Tickets cost approx. 9 Euros per person to any destination in
Budapest.

A cheaper option is to take a city bus (called Airport bus).
The bus stop is on the sidewalk where the building of
Terminal 2/A adjoins the building of Terminal 2/B.
The final stop of the bus is Railway Station `Kobanya-Kispest'.
This is a small station where each of the above trains to
Szeged stops, about 10-15 minutes after departure from `Nyugati'.
From `Kobanya-Kispest' one can either take a train
to Szeged, or take the subway (blue metro line: M3) to
Railway Station `Nyugati' and take the train to Szeged from
there.

IF YOU COME BY TRAIN,
then you will arrive in Budapest at one of the three major railway
stations: `Keleti', `Deli' or `Nyugati'. If you arrive at `Keleti' or `Deli',
then you can take the subway to `Nyugati': first take the red metro
line(M or M2) to `Deak ter', and then the blue line (M3) to `Nyugati'.

To travel by subway or bus or tram, you will need a pre-purchased
ticket which can be bought near the entrance of each subway station.
At the airport and larger subway stations there are ticket machines
which display instructions in English. They may require exact
change, though. A separate single ticket is required for each
leg of the trip. If you travel by subway and change lines, it is
cheaper to buy a transfer ticket rather than use two single tickets.

Budapest --> Szeged by C&T minibus
--------------------------------------
This is a direct service from the airport to your hotel in Szeged
for 40 Euros. To see the details check out the web page

    http://www.congresstravel.hu/congress/algebra/algebratransferreg.html

Public transportation in Szeged
-------------------------------
The means of public transportation in town are trams, trolley buses and buses.
The same ticket is valid for all of them. Tickets can be bought in advance in
Szeged (e.g. at the railway station) or onboard from the driver. In both cases
tickets have to be validated onboard. Weekly passes are also avalaible at the
ticket booths.

IMPORTANT FACTS ON CURRENCY AND HOTELS
--------------------------------------------
The Hungarian national currency is the Hungarian Forint (HUF). In shops,
restaurants, etc. in Hungary, prices are usually displayed and calculated
in HUF.

The official exchange rates are about:
    1 EUR=250 HUF
    1 USD=200 HUF

Some of the hotels (Hotel Dom is one of them) in Szeged also calculate
their prices in HUF. When you want to pay your hotel fee in cash of foreign
currency, these hotels apply their own exchange rate that is much worse for
the costumers than the official rate. So instead of paying the bill in foreign
currency in these hotels always pay it in Hungarian Forints either in cash or
by credit card. Other hotels like Hotel Forras calculate their prices in EUR,
where, of course, paying the hotel fee in Euros is your best option.

There are several banks downtown Szeged which are open 9:00-15:00
weekdays, where you can exchange money at the official rate. It is also
possible to exchange money at some of the downtown travel agencies
that may have slightly better rates than banks.

In Hotel Korona, Students. Hostel Apathy and in the guest rooms of the
Hungarian Academy of Sciences the only currency accepted for paying
the hotel fee is HUF. In Hotel Korona you may pay either in cash or by
credit card. In Students. Hostel Apathy and in the guest  rooms of the
Academy you have to pay in cash.
